Link tracking in campaigns

Learn how to use link tracking in your SMS messages and gain insights into valuable data while increasing your recipients' engagement.

In inMobile it is possible to use link tracking.

When you use link tracking in your SMS messages, it means that you can track how many of your recipients click on the link and interact with your message. This number is called your "click-through rate" and can be viewed under the relevant campaign in inMobile.

Link tracking allows you to gain much more insight into the performance of your SMS messages compared to an SMS without a link.

How to use link tracking in campaigns

Before you get started: Before you can use links with link tracking in your SMS, you need to create a subdomain. You can see how to set up a subdomain in our guide: "Setting up a subdomain for link tracking".

Once you have created a subdomain, you can start using links with link tracking. Here's how you do it:

  1. Go to the "Campaigns" menu item.
  2. Click "New campaign" in the top right corner.
  3. Select the list, country and optionally segment and mobile number cooldown for your broadcast.
  4. Now you need to write the text of your SMS. Paste your entire link in the message body
  5. Enable link tracking/link shortener and select your domain.
  6. Choose whether you want to have the option to unsubscribe in your message.Note. This is required by law in SMS marketing messages.
  7. In the example message to the right, you can now see how your shortened link will look to the recipient when the message is sent.
  8. Click "Next" and choose when to send the campaign.

Benefits of using link tracking

There are several benefits to using link tracking in your SMS messages.

More conversions

Links in SMS allow you to direct the recipient to your website or another URL you want to drive traffic to. This increases the chance of conversions.

Access to owned data

With link tracking, you can gain insight into how many recipients interact with your message (click-through rate), and if you add an unsubscribe link, you can also gain insight into how many people unsubscribe from your SMS list again. You can use this data to optimise future campaigns. It is particularly effective for those who work with SMS marketing or SMS for e-commerce.

Send SMS to your most engaged recipients

When you use link tracking in inMobile, you can export a list of recipients who have previously clicked on a link in your messages. You can use this list to create a new segment of your most engaged recipients and send them targeted SMS messages.

Bonus: Shorter and more trustworthy links

When you add link tracking to your links in inMobile, you get the added bonus of your link being shortened. This is quite clever as an SMS message can have a maximum of 160 characters and a long link can therefore use a disproportionate amount of characters.

There are plenty of online link shorteners, but they often make your links look like spam. It's different with inMobile's link shortener, where the brand name stays in your link. This significantly increases the credibility of the link and thus the click-through rate.
