What is a keyword?
If you have a clothing store where you want your customers to sign up for an SMS customer club, you could ask them to text the store name to 1245 to sign up.
How to create a keyword
Everywhere you need keywords, you have the option to create a new keyword.
- Click "Keywords & virtual numbers" in the menu.
- Then click on "Order keyword/ virtual number".
- Select "Keyword" and enter your desired keyword. Click "Check available".
- If the keyword is available, you can then click "Order".
Four rules to remember when creating keywords
- Make sure the keyword is simple and precise. As far as possible, try to avoid using keywords where the mobile user might make mistakes. For example, if the keyword suggests that it can be spelt in two words.
- Is it likely that the recipient may misspell your keyword? Then you should carefully consider finding a different keyword or buying access to multiple keywords so that you also have alternative spelling options covered.
- Avoid combining numbers and letters in your keywords. There is both a high probability that the recipient will write it in two and that it can be difficult to tell the difference. For example, it can be difficult to decipher whether there are two O's or two zeros in the following:
"Text TØJJ00 to 1245 to receive offers from our store"
- Be careful not to choose a keyword because it's trendy. Although it's fashionable to use hashtags in other contexts, it doesn't mean it works as well for SMS.
The keyword SHOP is preferable to #SHOP, for example.
